    Promotional Illustration for Neojac Entertainment's fantasy mmo game Islands of War Sonecutter cove area. Featuring the Rising Woods technicians and guards who are a potion-making manufacturer/distributor. The addictive potions are ruining the townsfolk lives however, and so the bandit band the Reds rise to stop them.

  • FOLLOW YOUR NORTH STAR
    I submitted this piece for the Make a Wish Children's Foundation at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo 2011. The prescribed theme was 'dreams & wishes.' My interpretation was of early explorers entering unfamiliar territory, guided by the light of the north star, representing their hopes and dreams. I wanted to push my ability to create an abstracted planar style that was child-friendly.

  • MUSKET SMOKE
    This is the second mobile game currently under development by Snowpunch. The setting is loosely based on the War of the Spanish Succession, in which multiple factions jockey for the throne of the Spanish empire, and eventually all of Europe. Again I'm contributing styleguides, all in-game art assets, layouts, graphic design etc.

  • Nex Ferinas
    For the brutish ogres I referenced enormously muscular clydesdale horses. For the slaves I referenced cats and weasels for their cunning and agility. I wanted to exemplify some of the greatest conquering cultures in history, so I combined inhospitably cold Viking elements with rigid roman structure/architecture. I think some Frazetta influence snuck in there as well. I found google sketchup to be a useful tool for planning out complex architectural forms and small complicated ones like interlocking gears.

  • LUMINESSENCE
    This was my project for the Bioware Portfolio Development program during my fourth year at ACAD. I took creative direction from Art Director Matt Goldman and Lead Character Artist Shane Hawco. The stylistic elements were taken from ancient Chinese architecture. The environments referenced undersea kelp forests and poppy plants to create a kind of self-sustaining biological ecosystem in outer space. Organic membranes create atmospheric bubbles in which oxygen-dependent species can exist.

  • KEG BEARER
    I collaborated with Woodie Dovich of Snowpunch to create art assets and define the visual style for the ipad game Keg Bearer. It is a strategy game reminiscent of old-school tabletop wargames, with a rowdy twist. As programmer and director of the project, Woodie set navigational guidlines for me to follow, which I then followed with developing the styleguide, creating in-game assets and designing menus.

  • WWI CANADIAN ODYSSEY
    I wanted to break into a bit more realism for this series, particularly when it comes to subtlety of narrative clues. I also experimented with a technique of rendering initially in greyscale, then applying colourization layers over top.

  • WRATH OF KINGDOMS
    This was a sprawling battle I did for a school project where I tried to push just how many figures I could fit into a crowd scene. The colours/lighting schemes were inspired by classical oil painters like Peter Paul Rubens. Each knight was an opportunity to play with silhouette and try something new with tribal shapes in the armor that fit within each factions' style.

  • HEAVENLY RAGA
    This is a personal project I developed with the idea of a fun casual game in mind. Each series of creatures is based on an animal and integrated with a musical instrument appropriate to their cultural/regional background. I tried to push energetic shapes that reflected the lyrical quality of their respective instruments.

  • JET POWER
    Drawing on F-16 fighter jets I tried to integrate the same mechanical forms into an entire military jet-trooper. the idea was inspired by the characters from the racing game Kinetica from back in the day. If chicks on bikes are sexy, then same goes for chicks and jets right?

  • THE BASES ARE LOADED
    This piece was created for the Alberta Children's Hospital sports wall. I learned a valuable lesson about creating work for children while doing this project however; The final illustration was rejected due to suggestively violent elements. I made changes to it as requested, but in the end the violent overtones of the scene itself was deemed inappropriate for the hospital.

  • THISTLEWICH
    The idea for this setting is based on the lives of aphids. They feed on the sap of plants, and when through they destroy it and their home altogether; hence the colony continues to search for a new food source. Ladybugs act as their natural predators, which I found would be an interesting challenge to make look menacing. I based the clothing of the aphids on 17th century British coat styles, and those of the ladybugs on Spanish conquistadors.
